LOS ANGELES, CA- On Thursday, Sept 2, 2021, Andrew Berkeley Martin held himself a little birthday celebration at The Echo. It was billed as his “Rock & Roll Dreamland” that would consist of “Spiritual Bangers” and “Timeless Vibration”, guaranteed to be the “Rager of the Year”. Dude wasn’t lying. It was probably one of the best birthday parties I’ve ever attended.
Now, I wasn’t able to get to The Echo until later in the evening as I had a prior obligation, but I made my way to the Echo at around 11:30pm to see what was going on, and as soon as I stepped into the room, I could feel the buzz of excitement. There was brief lull between songs, when I spied my friend Jen Awad. Our greetings were brief as she was next up onto the stage. Backed by an all star line-up of local musicians, she was accompanied by Andrew and company as they ripped through a rousing cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock & Roll”.
That was the groove of the night. Talented musicians would join Andrew up on stage to rip through some “Timeless Vibrations” and “Spiritual Bangers”. Members of Palaye Royal, Barns Courtney, Bonavega, Grace Mitchell, Quincy Larsen (“Dove Armitage”) and more helped celebrate Andrew’s rockin’ life.
I spent a few hours at the venue roaming and taking quick photos of some of the guests in attendance. Having spent the earlier part of the evening taking concert photos, this was a bit of respite.
I bumped into other members of the L.A. music community, including Daniel Crook (Crook), Mimi Doe (Niis), a camera shy Nadya (Pussy Riot), and some familiar concert faces that I consider friends. I left before the evening ended, but I’m glad I got to spend a few hours at Andrew’s “Rock & Roll Dreamland”. The dude knows how to throw a party. Definitely up on my list for “Rager of the Year”.
