AUSTIN, TX- LEVITATION crushed the 4-day weekend of Oct 27-30, taking over Red River District and eastside venues with experimental, psych, punk, metal, indie, darkwave, and electronic shows satisfying the sometimes neglected subcultures in town. Goths, punks, psych, and music fans in general comingled in a sea of extensive picks, tied with an immersive light show featuring artwork and creations by Mad Alchemy Light Show, Jason Galea, Bill Gazer, Camel Lights, Deep Trip, Phantastic Lights, Drip/Cuts, European Sun, Dr. Mojo, Underground Light Orchestra, Astral Visions, Vision System, Fever Dream Interactive, Astral Violet, Lysergic Lights.
The official venues this year consisted of Stubb’s, Mohawk, Empire, FSG, Hotel Vegas, The Parish, Antone’s, Elysium, Scoot Inn, the newly relocated13th Floor, and Chess Club.
Levitation 2022 headliners included The Jesus and Mary Chain, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, She Past Away, The Black Angels, The Legendary Pink Dots, and Osees bursting through four nights of live performances.
Some very special highlights across the festival included Brazil’s Tropicália pioneers Os Mutantes, 70’s Zamrock group W.I.T.C.H, Turkish post-punk duo She Past Away, Los Angeles punk quartet L7, Canadian experimental assemble Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Detroit-bred experimental post-punk band Protomartyr.
Additionally, this year’s lineup brought a genre-fluid array of local performers consisting of beloved punk rock band A Giant Dog, L.A based/Austin-born Temple of Angels, Pleasure Venom, Daiistar, The Well, Heartless Bastards, Annabelle Chairlegs, Blushing, Portrayal Of Guilt, Adrian Quesada, Alex Maas, Ringo Deathstar, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and a few other acts.
