LOS ANGELES, CA- I first met David Scott Stone last year when he performed with Sister Screamer at the showcase I used to host and produce at Madame Siam. I remember being enthralled with his instrument: a huge, home built monstrosity that served as electronic percussion. Man… the sounds he was able to pull out of that thing!
On this night, David would be performing his own music. For any fan of dark, electronic dance music, this was a set you would have loved. The beats were sharp and loud. Propulsive. Hypnotic. My only thought was that if there were timed strobes, that would have had patrons foaming at the mouth.
As an aside, I wanted to give David a shout out for acknowledging Mrklovesyou‘s courage during her performance, powering through her set despite the sound issues. It takes a certain amount of humility to step back from one’s own performance in the middle of it to acknowledge another. I thought that was a very kind gesture.
