LOS ANGELES, CA- First impressions matter, and Cil makes hers stick. Her new single, “something like this” (Warner Records), kicks off with a bass line that leans into a blues lick: sly, swaggering, and instantly attention-grabbing. From there, the track bursts in with sass and attitude, yet it never loses its sense of fun.

The structure is what elevates it: a swooping blues swell carries the song along, building toward the climactic moment when a gospel choir joins in, giving the track an anthemic lift. Cil’s delivery sits right at the heart of it: sultry but sharp, sensual but playful. There’s an undeniable rasp in her voice that makes the words hit harder, especially on the line punctuated with “bitch.” It lands with raw conviction, giving the track both edge and personality.

Cil herself has said the single represents reclaiming her femininity: “Rather than being sexy for someone else, the song represents finally feeling sexy and confident and taking that power back.” You hear that sense of ownership in every line — whether she’s singing about slipping vodka into lemonade or letting desire drip like honey, there’s a self-assuredness that defines the track.

This is my first real experience with Cil’s music, but the aesthetic she’s going for is compelling. There’s a blend of blues swagger, gospel soul, and R&B-pop hooks that feels intentional and exciting. It’s a sound that commands attention, and it’s no wonder Stevie Nicks personally tapped Cil to open a string of her sold-out arena shows; a co-sign that speaks volumes about her artistry.

The timing couldn’t be sharper. Cil is currently on the road as direct support for Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism tour, hitting arenas across North America including a four-night stand at Madison Square Garden (9/17–9/21) and another four at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles (10/4–10/8). Coming off her don’t hold me accountable EP — which racked up 10 million streams and won praise from outlets like UPROXX and Elite Daily — this single feels like the next step in her evolution.

As for what’s next, Cil is clearly setting herself up for a breakout year. With a growing catalog, an arena-sized platform, and music that’s both personal and resonant, she’s building momentum fast. If “something like this” is just the beginning of her next chapter, it won’t be long before Cil’s name becomes a fixture in the pop and R&B conversation.
