LOS ANGELES, CA- Los Angeles’ own BEAUTY SCHOOL DROPOUT have been bubbling under the surface for a minute now, and with their latest single “Fever,” they’re no longer asking for your attention—they’re grabbing it by the collar and yanking you onto the dancefloor.
Coming off a wave of momentum—touring with blink-182, selling out headline shows, and building a loyal fanbase that’s as rowdy as it is ride-or-die—BSD is clearly swinging for the fences. “Fever” is the kind of track that makes you wonder why you didn’t buy into the hype earlier. (Guilty as charged. Being from L.A., they’ve always been on my radar, but I kind of gave them the “maybe I’ll let this marinate” treatment. Big mistake.)
From the first note, “Fever” hits like a shot of adrenaline to the chest. The guitars are sharp and swaggering, slicing through the track with confidence and precision. The vocals are urgent, delivered with the kind of charisma that only a frontman who knows he’s got it can pull off. And that hook—”I got the fever”—might be simple on paper, but in practice, it’s a call to movement. You can practically feel the room start to shake.
It’s all part of the lead-up to the band’s hotly anticipated full-length debut Where Did All the Butterflies Go?, dropping September 5 via Verswire, the new label imprint helmed by Mark Hoppus, Pete Wentz, and Sherry Saeedi. The album is produced by Neal Avron, the hitmaker behind classics from Fall Out Boy, twenty one pilots, and Linkin Park. Not bad company to keep.
“Fever” was the first track written for the album and, according to the band, served as the North Star for the project. “Going into this project, we simply wanted to create a soundtrack that makes rock music fun and exciting again,” the band said. “Something you could play in the clubs and people will get just as hyped hearing guitars as they do hearing 808s.” Mission accomplished.
Lyrically, “Fever” leans into BSD’s flirtatious, late-night energy: “Now we’re dripping wet and I don’t want to let you go / Sun-kissed skin covered in sweat and gold.” It’s sweaty, messy, and exactly the kind of rock music you want to scream along to in a packed, overheated venue at 1:00 a.m.
BSD’s ascent feels inevitable now. They’re not just blending pop hooks with punk energy—they’re flipping the script on what modern rock can sound like. And with backing from heavy-hitters like Hoppus and Wentz, it’s clear they’re poised for a serious breakout.
So yeah, maybe I should’ve gotten on board sooner. But with “Fever” still ringing in my ears and Where Did All the Butterflies Go? just around the corner, I’m all in now. Follow BEAUTY SCHOOL DROPOUT on Facebook, Instagram and X.*********************
