ABOUT MY MIXTAPEZ:
My Mixtapez was founded by Danny, Juan Carlos and Ricky Dueñas in August 2010. The three brothers are first generation Americans who were born and raised in Homestead, FL to Mexican immigrant parents. The Dueñas brothers grew up around mobile and technology, as their parents owned a small T-Mobile store. When the first ever smart phone was released, they immediately saw the potential and it opened their eyes to the possibilities it could bring. The idea for the app came about from realizing there was a void for a mobile music platform geared towards mixtapes where the listener could stream music directly from their cell phone, instead of having to download a mixtape and import it into a media player. Hip-hop is the top streaming genre in the United States, so it was a no-brainer for the three brothers to combine their love of hip-hop with their love of technology. Since then, My Mixtapez has grown into the premiere mobile music platform for hip-hop listeners with 10 million monthly active users and over 25 million downloads just in the last year. What started as a project the three put their own money into, working out of their parent’s house, now has over 50 employees. They’ve managed to stay independent as a discovery platform and to get the tech world to understand the power of hip-hop. The Dueñas brothers’ next goal is to change the industry standards and bring a new way to empower artists by giving them tools to control and monetize their content.
