Kicking off the music at Sunstock Solar Festival was the Oregon bred, Los Angeles based, band yOya. The group’s founding members, Alex Pfender and Noah Dietterich, are folk to the core, but they use carefully placed electronic synth elements to give their music a very distinct sound. Their music conjured up images in my head of what musical offspring would be if Andrew Bird and Animal Collective had music babies.

Though the early crowd was sparse, those that were in attendance were treated to a set  that was perfect for the midday time slot. Though the vocals were smooth and soothing, the band had a terrific energy which manifest their surprisingly complex sonics and complimented the beautifully bright, though hot, day.

I understand that the band is currently working on new music, but I’d be very interested in seeing their live show in a club setting with interesting visuals/lighting surrounding them.
