LOS ANGELES, CA- As the stage was being set up for the next act, headliners of last year’s Identity LA, Year of the OX, all of a sudden jumped up on makeshift stage platforms made of speakers and climbed up metal stage walls to start rapping with no introduction. Stunned and confused attendees didn’t seem to complain as they quickly pulled out their phones to record the lively chaos.
The Korean-American rappers spit remarkably well written verses from one of their newest release, “A-Zn Foods”. In the song, members JL and Lyricks pay homage to a wide range of staple Asian dishes from A to Z such as Chinese dimsum, Filipino menudo, Vietnamese pho, Japanese ikayaki, Korean kimchi to of course rice among many others. The songs eloquence represents the Asian community as a whole while still keeping our mouths watering with every word.
Fittingly, the skillful group exited the stage with a few words promoting the variety of delicious food options. From vendors to food trucks, the selection was brought to this year’s festival by Korean American chef, Roy Choi, creator of the infamous gourmet Korean taco truck, Kogi.
