LOS ANGELES, CA- It’s been about a year since Brass Box released new music (the single “Moonlight Desires”) and a little over a year since they released an album (the EP Ivory Skies), but the band has been playing gigs and polishing their sound while currently working a their debut full-length album. Stepping up for an opening slot at the Moroccan Lounge before Glaare and Black Mare took the stage, I got to see Brass Box play one of those gigs.
I’ve seen Brass Box live a couple of times, with the last instance being a day-time slot during Echo Park Rising and all I can say is that their pulsing atmospheric music is much more impactful in a dimly lit venue with stark, kinetic lighting than under the steady shine of the midday sun.
The swelling guitars and Ammo’s feathery vocals, while sonically contrasting, work in perfect harmony. Mysterious and dark … An odd calm before and during a storm … Brass Box is poised to write the second chapter of their story, and I can’t wait to hear it.
