I was introduced to Starley earlier this year by a close friend who had recently become completely obsessed with the Ryan Riback remix of her song ‘Call on Me’. This obsession was contagious and I found myself listening to the song on repeat more times than I can count. To say the least, I was pretty excited to discover that the Australian bred singer-songwriter was scheduled to take the stage at L.A. Pride.

Like her music, Starley’s stage presence is magnetic. Her presence on stage was very reminiscent of a 90s era Sporty Spice as she delivered her pop tunes with a confident  ‘girl- power’ swagger.  Hers was a performance that I can only imagine boosted the self-esteem and confidence of anybody in the audience who may have had any self-doubt.

One of my biggest takeaways from Starley’s performance was the personal story that she shared with the audience during the introduction of her final song. She spoke about how she had reached a point in her life that she felt like it was time to completely give up on her music career. Though she found success in being a writer for other artists, she was discouraged from pursuing a career as an artist because of the criticism and scrutiny that she was receiving, and decided that it would be best for her to return back to Australia and be a personal trainer. While doing some studying, she felt the urge to write the song that would be ‘Call on Me,’ which reinvigorated her to jump-started her career.

Starley’s single ‘Call on Me’ has gone gold and platinum in 9 countries, and 3x platinum in her homeland of Australia. She is currently on a world tour.
