“…The second act to hit the stage was Tummache. During this performance, I kept telling myself that I knew this lead singer, even though I didn’t know the band. When I got home, I googled Tummyache and found out that Soren Bryce was the lead singer.
I remembered Soren Bryce from her self titled EP from a few years ago. That EP was an indie-pop album. Tummyache’s music pretty much the opposite of that. It’s alt-rock with a gritty edge.
With her hair trimmed down, it seems that Soren is diving deeper into moods and sentiment with Tummyache. With every listen of Tummyache’s repertoire, I feel like I’m getting a little more insight into Soren’s head. For example, the lyrics in “Commonplace” are pretty striking when you pay attention: “Didn’t want to be here in the first place. I got my name on my birthday. It’s the first thing that belonged to me.” It’s a subtle sentiment, but it’s awfully deep.
The performance was very introspective as well. I think the best word to describe it would be “moody”. Soren cast a mood for us to get swallowed up in, and amidst the heavy purple lights, we let the mood swallow us for her set…”
