For every artist we decided to catch at SXSW, we decided to review each performance with our own version of “Five Ws and One H” answering the questions: 1) Who are they, 2) What kind of music do they play, 3) When did they play, 4) Where are they from, 5) Why did we decide to catch them play and 6), How was their performance.

WHO: She Drew The Gun: fronted by Louisa Roach (guitar and vocals) with Sian Monaghan (drums), Jack Turner (guitar) and Jenni Kickhefer (keys)

WHAT: On their Facebook page they are described as “Impassioned, hypnotic and darkly ornate psych-pop.”

WHEN: 3/16/2017 at Latitude 30 presented by BBC Radio 6 Music/AIM.

WHERE: Wirral, North West England.

WHY: Of all of the bands the bands that I researched, I was particularly intrigued She Drew The Gun. After learning they were highly regarded by BBC Radio and reading rave review (Huffington Post) after rave review (NME), then finding out that they won Glastonbury’s “Emerging Talent” contest, I was compelled to attend.  I was digging this song too:

HOW: Of all of the band introductions I had seen up until this point, none was more effusive than the one a BBC Radio DJ made introducing She Drew The Gun. The DJ made it a point to emphasize the lyrical content of the music and how much it had effected her upon each listen. I certainly took notice.

Though Louisa and company’s music is definitely more psychedelic sonically, the lyrics are fierce and fiery, flavored with a little bit a political punk edge.  When Louisa sings of inequity, and glares into the audience with those steely eyes, you could feel the weight of every word she sang- which I couldn’t help but try taking photos of, it was so intense.
