LOS ANGELES, CA- Reggie Becton is a crooner who hails from Prince George County, Maryland whose his velvety croon will have you getting into a soulful mood instantly. Reggie Becton released two EPs in 2019, PHASES and My Beanie’s Orange, which received glowing remarks from outlets like Earmilk and Lyrical Lemonade. We’re jumping in a little late in the game, but after giving his music a spin, we’re fully on board the Reggie Becton train as well.

One of the tracks off My Beanie’s Orange is the laid back cut “Rainin’ In LA”. This track allows the emotional timbre of Reggie’s voice to shine. Accompanied by a tranquil instrumental, it’s Reggie’s voice that takes center stage. The electric and bass guitar provides gentle flourishes that accentuate Reggie’s solid tenor.

Tapping the MTV VMA nominated director WALU to give his song life, the video for “Rainin’ In LA” captures the emotional struggle of longing and desire that’s embodied in Reggie’s voice. Walu has worked with the likes of 21 Savage, Wale, Tory Lanez, Teyana Taylor and Little Mama. Working with WALU was a dream for Reggie as he has stated:

“WALU was the only person I knew that could capture the essence of the song so well and I truly do not think anyone else could have done a better job. The strong cinematic visuals not only represent classic LA, but are also reminiscent of traditional R&B music videos with rooftop shots, vintage convertibles, love interests, and singing in the rain. In recent months, social media has been complaining about ‘how R&B wasn’t the same anymore because men don’t sing in the rain,’ so I wanted to fix that problem, I really wanted to do something that paid homage to the great R&B artists that paved the way,”

Of the video, Reggie has said:

“When coming up with the treatment for the video, we knew without a doubt that Los Angeles had to be the backdrop […] In the video, you see places in LA that are pieces of my reality: a Downtown Los Angeles skyline which is where I worked my first job, you get a glimpse of La Brea which is where I spend half my time just sitting in traffic and you get to experience what my home for the past two years looks like when you see The Jungles, a very historic neighborhood in LA.”
