The second act grace the stage of the 12th night of Red Bull Sound Select’s “30 Days In LA” was the Los Angeles based artist Harriet Brown.

I had heard of his work prior to this night, but I had missed my chance to catch his scheduled performance Echo Park Rising. His performance was musically complimentary with Sur Ellz’s set and kept the crowd’s energy high while enticing them to dance and sing along to his funk driven music.

Drum machines, synths, a guitar and his vocals all came together amazingly and created an atmosphere that seemed to take us back in time. He lists Prince to be one of his biggest influences and his performance certainly showed it. With looping guitar licks, incredibly sensual R&B synths and vocals that draw influence from such artists like Mariah Carey, D’Angelo and Prince himself, Harriet Brown lulled us into his world with a brand of romantic funk that I have never experienced before.
