Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The same can be said about being a singer-songwriter. In the business of music, singer-songwriters will write songs, demos will be cut, and hopefully, the right ears will hear it. In the “wrong” hands, that music can be discarded and not be given a second chance.

Bebe Rexha is all about second chances, and she spoke about her past, professional experiences at LA PRIDE. She told the audience how when she was shopping her music, people told her that her music wasn’t good enough. That she wasn’t good enough. Well … the laughs on them. Over the course of her career, she has written chart topping hits for the likes of Eminen and Rihanna (“The Monster”), Tinashe (“All Hands On Deck”), G-Eazy “Me, Myself & I” and Iggy Azalea (“Team”).

With her success as a songwriter, she is grabbing life by the horns, and diving head first into her own solo career, dropping a banger of a single earlier this year titled “No Broken Hearts” featuring Nicki Minaj.

Bebe Rexha’s performance, a set that consisted of hit after hit after hit that she’s co-written, was full of strength and self-empowerment, demonstrating to those in attendance that she has the  star power necessary to break out as a solo artist. Her vocals were strong and on point, and the way she was able to engage the audience, to have them sing her songs to her, was quite validating.

She took the time out of her performance to address the crowd, emphasizing the importance of fighting through the nay-sayers to achieve your goals:

“I tell every crowd, every night, that if you leave with one thing here tonight, just fucking believe in yourself and shut out the fucking noise.”

As long as that “noise” isn’t her music, I think we’re all good.
