LOS ANGELES, CA- Following the success of last year’s Love You Down mini-fest, Swimm kicked off 2018 with its sophomore incarnation at The Echo with a fantastically curated line-up of local talent. But at the end of the day, the capacity crowd was there have Chris, Adam and company love them down literally.
Now, we’ve covered Swimm a lot. In fact, we most caught their performance at The Moroccan Lounge 12/3/17. And there’s good reason for it. They play some damn good music that’ll get your ass grooving to their beat. Their performance at Love You Down this time around was no different, except there seemed to be a lot more … and pardon the cliche … love in the air.
It all started at the outset when Adam walked onto the stage with a huge bouquet of long stem flowers. He walked upstage to graciously hand a piece of his floral heart to as many outstretched hands before he made his way to his drum kit.
Chris (lead vocals and guitar) continued to stir the pot of the love in the room cajoling the audience to come closer to the stage with each song. When he wasn’t strumming the guitar, sneaking smiles to his friends in the audience, he was reaching out into the audience, physically connecting with fans as his smoothly delicate tenor voice wooed them into a hazy dream.
Swimm, Chris especially, feeds off the crowd’s energy, and with so many fans in the audience, the passion he exuded was simply magnetic. At one point, for the duration of a song, Chris sang atop the shoulders of a woman who was willing to bear his weight. It was a pretty amazing gesture of self-sacrifice for the love of art and Swimm and really seemed to encapsulate what the evening was all about.
