LOS ANGELES, CA- Kid Wave had been on my for a few months prior to Broke L.A. I’m not sure how it got into my one of my playlists, but “Everything Changes” was a dreamy bit of pop goodness with an appealing Morrissey like somberness to it that I couldn’t stop listening to for a spell.

With only “Everything Changes” as a point of reference, I watched Lea Emmery and her troupe play a set infused with lots of mid 90’s vibes. Bits of shoegaze and grunge permeated through the dream pop themes I was anticipating. Lea, wearing all black everything (jeans, shirt, leather jacket and shades) effortlessly performed the set with a certain air that was part cool confidence and part indifferent nonchalance.

I enjoyed watching them live, but whether or not their stage presence is to your liking, there’s no denying that Lea can definitely write some quality songs. Though I was unfamiliar with everything other than “Everything Changes”, a common musical theme that I did notice was that virtually every song swelled with huge hooks and choruses. As long as she write quality bangers, it’s pretty much a guarantee that Kid Wave’s fan base will continue to grow.
