Kaki King is an American guitarist and composer known for her percussive and jazz-tinged melodies, energetic live show which utilizes a synchronized multimedia visual presentation that “performs”, even on her custom made white guitar, as she plays. The visual and auditory experience has wowed critics, and I was very excited to experience the performance myself. I was equally impressed that her multimedia presentation was 100% powered by the days blazing sun (go solar energy!).

When Kaki took the stage, dressed in all white, the stage was dark. The focus of her performance was clearly on her music and the multimedia presentation. Her presence on stage was almost an afterthought. I got lost in the creative visuals effects that danced behind (on a large white canvas screen), in front (on her guitar) and on her. City landscapes of New York City and other colorful animations morphed with the mood of her music which was very pleasant on the senses.

Kaki’s music is a mix of various musical genres. From the psychedelic, to the jazzy, Ms. King’s musical explorations was a voyage to the edges of the sonic spectrum, and was booth soothing and exciting. With the crowd cooling off from the blazing sun that had set only an hour earlier, Kaki King’s music served as the perfect soundtrack for laying in the grass to achieve that end.
