If Broke L.A Was Any Indication, We Should Keep An Eye On Dana And The Wolf THOUGHTS+PHOTOS: Dana and the Wolf @ REGENT THEATRE | BROKE LA 4/21/18
LOS ANGELES, CA- Didn’t know to much about this band, and apparently they’re relatively new to the scene (their first live performance was January this year apparently), but their banging electronic pop at Broke L.A. sounded pretty damn polished to me.
Dana and the Wolf is Dana Lynn Hobson and Daniel Wolf. Their singles “Attitude” (2016) and “Him” (2017) garnered significant attention, getting placed on some coveted digital playlists, and each getting over 100K plays (as of June 8th, 2018). While they haven’t yet released an official EP or album yet, they steadily released singles over time, with the most recent drop the cut titled “Lie To Me” whose heavy electronic instrumentals and ominous melody lines had a tone that’s reminiscent of Bishop Brigg’s hit “River”.
Dana was all smiles up on the Broke L.A. stage, but when it came time to sing, she seemed to take on an alternate spirit, spitting lyrics with convincing force and a sense of authority. Against the hip-hop tinged instrumentals that Daniel played, Dana’s vocals were strong; soulful when they needed to be, and sassy when she wanted it to be. Daniel’s musicianship is clearly an integral part of the duo, but it’s hard to deny that the viewer’s focus should be directed on Dana, even when he was singing/rapping his own verses/parts.
Dana and the Wolf have suggested on social media that they’ve got more music ready to drop later this year, and I’m excited to here more of it soon.
