LOS ANGELES, CA- We always keep an eye on rising talent across the pond, and an artist that has piqued our interest is the young, upstart Holly Humberstone. This recording artist has been heavily championed by BBC Music and has a devoted fanbase that happens to include Niall Horan.

The first single that caught our attention was her beautifully poetic “Deep End”. It’s a song that really shines a light on her lyricism from the outset when she pours her heart out with “Throw me in the deep end, I’m ready now to swim. The air in my lungs, May not last very long but I’m in”.

Her new single, “Falling Asleep At The Wheel”, is another songwriting gem. While it has a decidedly more uptempo pop style with a pulsing dance beat that starts up 50 seconds in, its lyrics are deep and contemplative, striking that delicate push and pull balance of vulnerable emotions through her vocal performance and the dance sensibilities of the underlying production.

Of the song, Humberstone has said:

“I wrote it a while ago whilst still unsure of who I wanted to be and where I wanted to head musically. Writing this song was probably the first time I felt like I knew who I was within the music I was making. The track is about losing momentum and feeling like your emotions will slowly destroy the relationship you’re in and you altogether. I think the dark, wonky sonics define who I am musically, which is why Falling Asleep At The Wheel is such a milestone track for me, and has taught me so much about myself as a musician. We created the song at the house I grew up in, which is very old and falling apart, in the middle of the countryside. You can almost hear the weird sounds of the house within the track.”

“Falling Asleep At The Wheel” is contemplated for inclusion on Holly’s forthcoming EP with is ude out later this year on Platoon. Keep an eye out for it. We have a feeling it’ll do big things.
