LOS ANGELES, CA- We love us a great singer-songwriter, and one that we’ve had our eye on for a couple of years now has just released a new EP.
Adam Melchor is one of our current favorites. It’s his earnestly clever lyrics, relatively lo-fi unassuming aesthetic and his humble demeanor which makes him and his music such a great listen. His new EP SUMMER CAMP is another fantastic collection of songs that gives us yet another facet of Adam’s creative mind. Written and recorded in three days, the 6-track collection is a collaboration with Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief, Bon Iver), Ethan Gruska (Phoebe Bridgers, Fiona Apple), and GRAMMY-nominated engineer John DeBold (Vampire Weekend, HAIM), all brought together by Adam.
Let me just restate how much of a fan I am of Adam Melchor’s songwriting. I love his lyrics so much that I’ve googled his them to read as I listen to his music in my headphones. On the lyric site Genius, Adam goes into some of the backgrounds of the songs he’s written. On the first track of this EP, “Jewel”, Adam remembers:
“i originally came up with the idea of JEWEL after talking to my sister julie. my nickname for her has always been jul. i was living in pasadena and missing my family back in NJ. i talked to julie the day before a session. she was cheering me up by telling me everything would work out. she sounded so happy on the phone and when i asked she was telling me about how happy her boyfriend (now fiancé!) makes her. their love for each other has always been so true from the start, and i decided to write about it.” [STET]
